(Scheduled to start from Fall 2021)

UF Undergraduate Certificate on IoT Design and Security is a distinctive offering that provides comprehensive training and education on all aspects of IoT and its interaction with hardware, system and networking. The certificate is a 9 credit hour program with required courses that provide solid foundation of IoT design and security issues and solutions. Successful completion will prepare a student for a career in the emerging IoT area.

This an optional certification of accomplishment for students pursuing undergraduate degrees in the College of Engineering and non-degree seeking students with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering. It does not overlap with any other existing certificate program. Moreover, it will not have any adverse impact on any other degree program.

Mission

Within the past decade, the number of IoT devices introduced in the market has increased dramatically. The total is approaching a staggering 15 billion, meaning that there are currently roughly two connected devices per living human. This trend is expected to continue at a rapid pace, with an estimated 50 billion connected devices by the year 2020. However, the massive deployment of IoT devices has led to significant security and privacy concerns given that security is often treated as an afterthought for IoT systems. This certificate program aims at providing appropriate training, knowledge, and skills to the students to prepare them for pursuing a career in IoT area. Salient features of the certificate program are as follows:

• Focuses on the design of IoT-based solutions for multi-discipline challenges;
• Comprehensive coverage on IoT security: attacks, security analysis, and countermeasures;
• Emphasis on practical hands-on learning of various design and security issues and protection approaches as well as innovative IoT applications such as autonomous vehicles and wearable health.
