Recently, more and more tech companies are moving their data centers to an unlikely place — the ocean. Companies are taking the plunge underwater in order to harness the natural cooling properties of ocean water, therefore significantly reducing energy costs and emissions. But with the new location comes new vulnerabilities.
Researchers at the Warren B. Nelms Institute for the Connected World have found that vibrations from sound can potentially be a significant threat to these data centers. New research reveals that such an attack could come from little more than a pool speaker.
But Dr. Sara Rampazzi, Dr. Md Jahidul Islam , and their collaborators have a solution.
