University of Florida first-year engineering students in STEPUP (Successful Transition and Enhanced Preparation for Undergraduates Program) visited the Warren B. Nelms Institute IoT Lab in July 2022 for a lab tour and research demos.
STEPUP is a student success program sponsored through the Office of Student Transition and Retention, a unit of the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE). The program was created to provide first-year engineering students with an opportunity to begin their transition into the HWCOE prior to their first semester at UF.
The students observed and participated in hands-on demos from eight Nelms Institute Graduate Students. The project demos included secure RFID technology, a wearable health-monitoring device, hardware hacking (HaHa) board, a fake medicine detection device using NQR, Cryptocomics for elementary school cybersecurity education, and more.
