We welcome Patricia Kio, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the School of Architecture, Sustainability and the Built Environment, to the Warren B. Nelms Institute for the Connected World.
“My research focuses on integrating digital tracking and feedback mechanisms into sustainable design and construction systems. By focusing on resource efficiency and geometry—drawing inspiration from Buckminster Fuller’s synergetics—the study explores how smart technologies like digital twins and AI can optimize material flows and circularity in the built environment. These innovations support the Nelms Institute’s goals of advancing intelligent infrastructure and resilient systems through interdisciplinary, tech-enabled approaches to climate-responsive design.”
D. Kio serves on the Editorial Board of Technology | Architecture + Design (TAD) Journal. She is a Board Member of the International Society for Construction with Alternatives, a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, a Fellow of the Microclimatic Design Research Group, and a LEED Green Associate with the U.S. Green Building Council.
She earned her Ph.D. in Architecture with a specialization in circular economy from Texas A&M University.
