David Bickram

David is a senior international student from Trinidad and Tobago pursuing a B.S. in Computer Engineering at the University of Florida. He serves as President of the IoT Students Club, where he helps create opportunities for students to learn, build, and connect through smart technology. His interests include embedded systems, smart home technologies, and the intersection of hardware, software, and AI. He enjoys developing practical technologies that connect the digital and physical worlds and exploring how connected devices can improve people’s quality of life. Outside of his technical work, David is involved in engineering leadership and student engagement at UF.

Alexa. I rely on it every morning for alarms, quick weather updates, and getting the information I need to start my day without reaching for my phone.

Salud Avila

My name is Salud Geraldo Avila, a Computer Engineering senior at the University of Florida, born and raised in South Florida. I’ve had the opportunity to work in the IoT research Lab, where I get to explore emerging technology. My research focuses on the mechanics, electronics, and software behind a wearable device. Outside of academics, I spend my time with family and friends, and I’m always catching up on the latest in tech. As Vice President, my goal is for this club to be a place where people actually build things like sensors, boards, and systems that talk to each other, plus the experience that comes with getting them to work.

An IoT device I couldn’t live without is my RingConn Gen 3. It’s the least demanding piece of technology I own– no screen, no notifications, just a sensor package small enough to forget I’m wearing it and a battery that lasts over a week. Fitting that much into a ring is the kind of engineering problem I find myself thinking about long after I’ve taken it off.

Walter Haber

I am a 3rd year Electrical Engineering major. I work in the IoT lab, where my research primarily focuses on NMR technology and the non-destructive classification of agricultural materials. Outside of IoT, I am also an active member of the Eta Kappa Nu Honor Society and the IAM3D design team.

The IoT technology I could not live without is my smart running watch; I am an avid runner and absolutely need it to measure my activities.

Shayan Nazir

My name is Shayan Nazir, and I am a junior majoring in Data Science with a minor in Mathematics. I specialize in machine learning and its applications across healthcare, business, and emerging technologies. I am a part of the clinical NLP lab at the Health Outcomes and Bioinformatics department. Through my research and project experience, I enjoy transforming complex data into meaningful insights. I’m excited to be part of the IoT Students Club this year, connect with other students interested in technology, and explore how connected devices and intelligent systems can create a positive impact.

My wireless headphones. Beyond music, they keep me connected through calls, voice assistants, and smart features like adaptive noise cancellation, making them one of the most useful pieces of connected technology in my everyday life.

Alejandro Pose

My name is Alejandro Pose and I am rising sophomore in Electrical Engineering. I am from Rio de Janeiro, and I am excited to plan and organize high-quality workshops and events for the IoT student club. I joined the IoT student organization because I want to establish cross-disciplinary events across multiple engineering fields, connecting researchers, professors, students, and applicable solutions in the internet of things.

One device that I could not live without is my smartwatch, because it tracks all the health indicators that I need.

Giorgio Rusconi

Electrical Engineering student at the University of Florida with interests in embedded systems, PCB design, RF electronics, VLSI, and power electronics. I’ve gained hands-on experience through automotive electronics testing at Ford, FPGA and biomedical electronics research, and projects involving microcontrollers, real-time systems, sensors, and wireless communication. I enjoy building practical hardware, learning new technologies, and collaborating on multidisciplinary projects that connect embedded devices with the physical world.
