The Warren B. Nelms Institute for the Connected World is proud to announce a new Nelms Rising Star Professor, Baibhab Chatterjee, PhD. This endowment was made possible thanks to a generous donation by the Nelms family.

The Nelms Rising Star Professorship is awarded to junior faculty (assistant and associate professors) who have shown extraordinary promise early in their career in research, education, workforce development, and/or outreach activities relevant to the mission of the institute.

Dr. Chatterjee’s research interests are in low power, efficient, and secure circuits and systems design for smart applications.

He received the Ph.D. degree in 2022 from the Elmore Family School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Purdue University. His industry experience includes two years as a digital design engineer/senior digital design engineer at Intel (2015-17) and one year as a R&D Engineer at Tejas Networks, India (2011-12). He was also in the Quantum Hardware Design team with IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, NY, USA during 2020-21, where he worked on ultra-low power quantum receiver front-ends.

He is the recipient of the NSF CAREER Award (2025), the Eaton Award in Design Excellence (2023), and multiple best paper/poster awards, including HOST 2018 (3rd), CICC 2019, HOST 2019, CICC 2021, and the RFIC/IMS 3MT Award (2020 – audience choice). His research interests include low-power analog, RF, and mixed-signal circuit design for next-generation biomedical and military applications.
